Asian wedding venues in London and Kent

This guide covers 81 venues across London and Kent that host Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, Gujarati, Tamil and other South Asian weddings, from community centres in Harrow and Northolt to 1,000-guest ballrooms in Croydon, Romford and beside Heathrow. It starts from ten councils’ official lists of approved ceremony venues, adds the banqueting halls and reception venues families actually book, and we reviewed every entry on 22 October 2026.

Most venue lists stop at a name and a capacity. The questions that decide an Asian wedding are different: can you bring your own caterer, can the priest light the havan, where does the baraat arrive, how many cars fit, and what time must the music stop. This page is built around those questions.

Asian wedding venues at a glance

  • 81 venues in four areas: 29 in west and north-west London, 22 in east London, 17 in south London and 13 in Kent. A few sit just over the borders, in Slough, Chigwell and Epsom, because London families book them.
  • Licensed for ceremonies: 30, from council approved-premises lists or the venue’s own statement. Seven are confirmed as not licensed, and for 44 we could not confirm either way, so ask.
  • Size: 41 publish a seated or reception figure of 300 or more; 15 publish 600 or more; five publish 1,000 or more. Another 31 publish no capacity at all.
  • Outdoor ceremonies: seven venues say they have an outdoor ceremony space.
  • Confidence: 34 venues are marked “open” because we found 2025 or 2026 weddings or bookings; 47 are marked “check”, mostly large hotels whose own pages we could not read or that no longer mention weddings. Contact those directly.
  • The legal part: a Hindu ceremony under a mandap at a hotel, or a nikah at a banqueting hall, is not a legal marriage on its own. Most couples add a civil ceremony. See getting married legally below.

How to choose an Asian wedding venue

Start with three numbers: how many guests sit down for the main meal, how many events you are holding, and how many cars will arrive. Then work through the points below at every viewing. They are the ones that cause problems on the day when nobody asked.

Seated or standing: read the capacity carefully

For a wedding of 300 to 1,000 guests, the headline figure on a listing is often the standing or theatre number, not the number who can sit at round tables with a stage, a dance floor, a DJ and a buffet line. The gap is large. Sattavis Patidar Centre in Wembley gives its Mostyn Suite as 700 theatre-style and 900 standing, but 400 in its reception layout. Grand Sapphire in Croydon seats 1,000 banquet-style with a standing figure of 2,000. Hilton London Wembley is listed at about 550 dining and 900 for a reception. Always ask for the seated figure with your stage and dance floor in place, and ask to see a floor plan from a wedding of your size.

Some venues also set a minimum. The Royal Regency in Manor Park has a 150-guest minimum, and the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich takes a minimum of 100, with weddings from 4:30pm.

In-house caterer, approved list or dry hire

Catering usually decides the budget, and venues work in one of three ways:

  • In-house only. The venue’s own kitchen does the food. Many Asian-run halls work like this with their own menus, such as Royal Nawaab in Perivale and Praba Banqueting Suite in Ilford, and so do most hotels. Ask whether the kitchen is halal, vegetarian, or both, and whether you can taste the menu.
  • An approved list. You choose from caterers the venue has vetted. Grand Sapphire works with a preferred list of 16 caterers, many of them South Asian. Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, lists five approved caterers, the Old Royal Naval College has a 2026 list of speciality caterers including South Asian ones, and Bridebook lists two approved Asian caterers for Hilton London Syon Park. The Willows offers dry hire with an approved caterer as well as its own halal menus. If your family has a caterer in mind, check they are on the list before you pay a deposit.
  • Dry hire or bring your own. You hire the room and bring your own caterer, decorator and sometimes bar. Grand Sapphire, The Grove Banqueting in Harold Hill, Woolston Manor in Chigwell and The Great Hall Leyton all offer a dry-hire route; Byron Hall in Harrow and Oakley House in Bromley allow outside caterers. Leeds Castle lets couples bring a caterer of their choice. Dry hire looks cheaper but adds work: ask about kitchen access, equipment, cleaning, waste and who runs the bar.

Mandap, havan and naked flames

A Hindu ceremony needs space for the mandap, time for the decorator to build it, and usually a small sacred fire, the havan, for the pheras. Many halls and hotels arrange mandaps themselves: The Hive London styles its own, Praba and Flame Banqueting arrange mandaps and staging, and The Willows supports mandap, poruwa and nikah set-ups. Fire is the question to ask in writing. Historic buildings are the strictest: the Old Royal Naval College allows no naked flames at all, candles included. Hotels and halls often allow a small, contained havan with notice, but fire alarms, smoke detectors and insurance vary by room, so ask whether the alarm can be isolated, who must be told, and whether a sand tray or a specific bowl is required. Ask too how early your decorator can get in and how quickly the mandap must come down if the same room becomes the reception.

Dhol and baraat: where can the groom arrive?

The baraat is easiest inside the venue’s own grounds: a long drive, a car park or a lawn where a horse, a car and a dhol can move without traffic. The Hive London has outdoor space for a baraat, Mayfair Venue in Chadwell Heath sells baraat packages, and venues with large grounds, such as The Willows (18 acres), SKLPC UK in Northolt (19 acres) and Leeds Castle, have room to spare. Town-centre halls on a high street have the hardest job, because the procession may end up on a pavement or a public road. No venue in this guide publishes its baraat rules, so ask the venue where the procession can start and stop, whether horses and loud music are allowed outside, and at what time. If any part of the route is on a public road, check with the local council well before the day. Our guide to planning the baraat and dhol covers timing, safety and the milni.

Vegetarian and alcohol-free community centres

Gujarati community centres are some of the largest and best-equipped wedding spaces in London, and many families choose them for their rules rather than despite them. Navnat Centre in Hayes is strictly meat-free and alcohol-free, with a main hall seating 600, a dining hall for 500 and grounds for a marquee of 500 to 1,500 or more. SKLPC UK in Northolt is strictly vegetarian and alcohol-free, with two suites for up to 800 guests. Sattavis Patidar Centre in Wembley and Dhamecha Lohana Centre in South Harrow are also community centres; check their food and drink policies directly. Plan any bar or a meat menu for a separate event elsewhere.

Parking and coach drop-off

Four hundred guests can mean two hundred cars. Venue figures vary widely: The City Pavilion in Collier Row lists parking for 650 or more vehicles, The Hive London up to 500, Mercure Maidstone Great Danes about 500, Radisson Hotel and Conference Centre London Heathrow 480, Sofitel London Heathrow 400 underground, and Oakley House 220. At the other end, The Royal Regency has no large car park of its own (about 30 cars at a nearby school), The Great Hall Leyton has street parking only, and The Woodville in Gravesend has no on-site car park. Some hotels charge for parking. Ask where a coach can stop and turn, and whether the car park is shared with another event that day.

Curfews and finish times

None of the 81 venues publishes a curfew we could find, which means you must ask. Get three times in writing: when the music must stop, when the bar closes, and when the room must be cleared, including your decorator’s stage and the caterer’s equipment. A late entrance can leave very little dancing if the room must be empty by midnight.

Prayer rooms, segregated halls and a room for the nikah

For Muslim weddings, look for a quiet second room. Regents Lake in Bow has two halls that can be segregated, a prayer room and a bridal suite; Impression Events Venue in West Ham has prayer facilities; The Great Hall Leyton has an annexe that works as separate suites or prayer rooms; Flame Banqueting offers segregated layouts. A smaller room next to the main hall suits the nikah itself, or a civil ceremony before the reception: London Darbar in Ilford has a second room for 110, The Willows a Premier Suite for 120, Mayfair Venue a lounge for 200, and The Pelligon in Canary Wharf a gallery for 250 and a terrace for 120. Our guide to holding the nikah and walima on the same day shows how prayer times and separate rooms shape the timeline.

Walima scale

The walima is the groom’s family’s reception, and it can be as large as the wedding itself. If it is the day after the nikah, check whether the same hall is free, because keeping the décor up overnight can save a second build. Several east London halls package the events together: Mayfair Venue for mehndi, nikah, baraat and walima, and Green Lane Banqueting in Dagenham, seating up to 240, for nikah, mehndi and walima.

Mehndi, sangeet and reception: one venue or several

Most Asian weddings in the UK run over three or four days: a mehndi, a haldi or maiyan, a sangeet or jaggo, the ceremony and reception, and often a walima or second reception. Each event has different needs, so the venue question is really several questions.

  • Mehndi and sangeet are smaller and later, from 100 to 300 guests, with performances, a dhol and a dance floor. A smaller suite at your main venue, a community hall or a marquee at home all work. Several halls sell them as packages: The City Pavilion has mehndi and reception packages, Praba holds mehndi and sangeet nights, The Great Hall Leyton hosts mehndis and sangeets, and Premier Banqueting London in Wealdstone markets mehndi and walima as well as mandap ceremonies.
  • The ceremony may be at a gurdwara, a mandir, a mosque or the venue itself. For a Sikh wedding the Anand Karaj takes place in the gurdwara, so the venue is for the reception: see our guide to gurdwara weddings in London and Kent. For a Hindu ceremony at the venue, the mandap and the reception may share one room, which means a turnaround in the afternoon.
  • The reception is the big room: the full guest list, a stage for family photographs, entrances and speeches.
  • Multi-day venues save travel and set-up. Leeds Castle has a dedicated Asian weddings page covering multi-day events, with marquees on the Cedar Lawn for weddings of over 200. Hotels beside Heathrow have hundreds of bedrooms for guests flying in: Renaissance London Heathrow has 710, Radisson Hotel and Conference Centre 637, Sofitel 605.

Using one venue for two events usually means a turnaround: ask how long the room needs between the mandap and the reception, or between the nikah set-up and the walima, and whether guests wait somewhere comfortable while it happens. Our Asian wedding timeline gives a sample four-day week with timings, and our guide to mehndi and sangeet photography covers lighting a hall or marquee after dark.

West and north-west London: Southall to Heathrow

The largest group in this guide, with 29 venues across Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Harrow, Brent, Barnet and Richmond, plus one hotel at Colnbrook in Slough; 14 are licensed for ceremonies. Three kinds of venue dominate. The Gujarati community centres (Navnat, SKLPC, Sattavis Patidar, Dhamecha Lohana) are large, practical and, in two cases, vegetarian and alcohol-free. The Heathrow hotels give you ballrooms, bedrooms and big car parks: Sofitel London Heathrow’s Arora Suite takes up to 1,300 theatre-style (about 1,100 dining per listings), Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 about 816 dining, and Radisson RED says 700 for gala dinners. And the stadiums: The Hive London in Edgware seats 600 in its Amber Suite, Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, markets Asian weddings for up to 850, and Byron Hall in Harrow seats up to 800. Southall’s own halls, Monsoon and Dawat, are listed for up to 500, but neither publishes full details. For something historic, Syon Park’s Great Conservatory seats 160, with an open-air ceremony lawn from May to September.

One caution: Heston Hyde Hotel, listed for up to 1,000, had a website that failed to load in October 2026 and says its restaurant and bar are closed, so confirm it is trading before you pay anything. Filter by style, guest numbers and ceremonies.

Getting married legally

In England, a religious wedding is legally binding only in a building registered for marriages, with an authorised person or a registrar present, according to GOV.UK’s guidance on planning your ceremony. Some gurdwaras, mandirs and mosques are registered and many are not. A Hindu ceremony at a hotel, or a nikah at a banqueting hall, is not a legal marriage on its own, so most couples hold a civil ceremony as well, often days or weeks before. Our guide to getting married legally in England sets out the options.

  • At a licensed venue. At the 30 licensed venues, the council’s registrars can come to you for a civil ceremony on the same day, in a separate room before the religious ceremony or the reception. Civil ceremonies can include readings and music but nothing religious; a blessing afterwards is allowed.
  • At a register office. Couples marrying at a reception-only hall often marry at a register office first. Tower Hamlets uses St George’s Town Hall in Shadwell, whose Tower Suite takes 180; Croydon Town Hall’s Clocktower Room takes 65; in Kent, the county register office is Oakwood House in Maidstone, and Medway has its own office in Rochester.
  • Giving notice. You give notice in the borough or district where you live, not where you marry, at least 29 days before the ceremony, and the venue is named on the notice, so book it first. Notice costs £46.50 each (£63 if referred under the immigration scheme). See GOV.UK on giving notice.
  • Outdoors. Civil ceremonies outdoors are legal only within the grounds of an approved venue. In Kent, the county registration service accepts outdoor ceremonies during British Summer Time, with an indoor room held in reserve.

To check a venue’s licence, use the council lists we started from: Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Harrow, Brent, Richmond, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Bromley and Kent.

Some places of worship have their own halls. Shree Sanatan Hindu Mandir on Ealing Road holds weddings in the temple and in the Gokaldham Centre behind it (main hall 300), and it is vegetarian and alcohol-free; Shree Jalaram Mandir in Greenford publishes wedding packages for 200 and 50 guests, according to their own pages. For Sikh weddings, Southall, Hounslow and Gravesend gurdwaras are covered in our gurdwara weddings guide.

Photographs and film at Asian wedding venues

Banqueting halls are built for parties, not cameras. A few decisions made with your decorator and DJ make a bigger difference to your photographs and film than any lens we bring.

  • Stage lighting and LED walls. Coloured uplighters look wonderful in the room and can turn skin purple or green on camera. Ask for warm white light on the stage and top table during entrances, speeches and family photographs. Some LED walls show flicker or lines on video at certain settings, so ask the supplier to run a high refresh rate, keep the screen static during speeches, and let us test it before guests arrive.
  • Entrance choreography. Tell us the route, the music cue and when the cold sparks or haze go off. Keep the aisle clear of phones and standing guests, and pause for two seconds at the stage: it gives us the frame everyone wants.
  • Mandap position. Place the mandap so guests, and our cameras, see your faces, not your backs. Avoid setting it in front of a bright window, which turns you into silhouettes, and leave a walkway around it so we can film the pheras and the sindoor without stepping onto the platform. Ask the priest where we may stand. Pillars and heavy drapes on all four sides hide the ceremony from the room, so keep at least one side open.
  • Flower and garland backdrops. The stage backdrop appears in hundreds of family photographs, so light it evenly, keep fairy lights away from directly behind your heads, and leave enough depth in front for a group of twenty to stand in two rows.
  • Long tables and speeches. Long tables photograph beautifully but hide faces at the far end. Put the microphone where the speaker faces you, so we see both the speech and your reaction, and ask the DJ for a sound feed: we record from it as well as our own recorders. See filming wedding speeches.
  • Dance floor lighting. Moving lights and haze are great on film, but a completely dark floor with a single spotlight leaves everyone else in shadow. Ask the DJ to keep some soft light on the floor during the first dance.
  • The dhol and the baraat. A dhol overwhelms microphones close up, so we record it from a distance and capture close sound separately. Ask the players to pause for any words of welcome at the door.
  • Drones near Heathrow. The Civil Aviation Authority’s flight restriction zones around airports run 2 to 2.5 nautical miles around the runways, with extra zones off each end, and a drone cannot fly in them without the airport’s permission. The hotels on the edge of Heathrow sit inside that zone, so plan on no aerials there; London City Airport affects the Docklands and Royal Docks, and Biggin Hill parts of Bromley. Country estates in Kent are often possible, with the venue’s permission. Our drone filming rules guide explains the checks we make.
  • Daylight portraits. Many halls have few windows. In London the sun sets around 21:20 in late June and around 15:50 in mid-December, and the clocks go back on 25 October 2026. In winter, take portraits straight after the ceremony; in summer, step outside for fifteen minutes between courses. See our golden hour guide.

From behind the camera, the thing that most often costs a couple good photographs at a big hall is not the light but the stage queue. At 400 guests, family photographs on the stage can take more than an hour, and if they start late they eat into the dancing. Appoint a family member to call the groups in order, and our guide to planning your family photo list shows how to group households.

Questions to ask every venue

Take this list to every viewing and ask for the answers in writing.

  • How many can sit down at round tables with our stage, dance floor and buffet in place? Can we see a floor plan from a wedding this size?
  • Is catering in-house, from an approved list or dry hire? Is the kitchen halal, vegetarian or both? Is there a corkage charge?
  • Can we have a mandap and a havan? What are the fire and smoke-alarm rules, and how early can the decorator get in?
  • Where can the baraat arrive, and are a horse and a dhol allowed outside? At what time?
  • What time does the music stop, and when must the room be cleared?
  • How many cars fit, is parking free, and where do coaches drop off?
  • Is there a second room for the nikah, a civil ceremony, prayers, or separate men’s and women’s seating?
  • Is the venue licensed for ceremonies, and which rooms? Is outdoor space included?
  • Is anyone else using the venue that day, and is there a bridal room?
  • Can we hold the mehndi, sangeet or walima here too, and how long is the turnaround between events?
  • What are the rules for photographers and filmmakers, including drones, haze, cold sparks and confetti?
  • What is included in the price: service charge, VAT, security, stage, chair covers, cleaning and the registrars’ fee?

Travel and logistics

Every venue in the London sections except Woolston Manor in Chigwell, the Hilton at Colnbrook and Epsom Downs is inside a London borough and so inside the ULEZ: a non-compliant car, van or minibus pays £12.50 a day. Coaches and heavier vehicles come under the separate Low Emission Zone, so ask your coach firm to confirm their vehicles comply. On a Saturday, allow 45 to 90 minutes to cross London between a gurdwara or mandir and the reception, and put every address, parking note and family contact on one run sheet. Our guide to wedding transport in London, Kent and Surrey covers coaches, wedding cars and last trains.

Your questions, answered

How many Asian wedding venues are there in London and Kent?

Our guide lists 81: 29 in west and north-west London, 22 in east London, 17 in south London and 13 in Kent. Thirty are licensed for ceremonies. Forty-seven are marked “check” because we could not confirm current wedding details, so contact those venues directly.

Which venues can take 1,000 guests?

Five publish a seated or dining figure of 1,000 or more: Sofitel London Heathrow (about 1,100 dining), Grand Sapphire in Croydon, The City Pavilion in Collier Row, The Royal Regency in Manor Park (including its balcony) and Heston Hyde Hotel, which you should confirm is trading. Byron Hall in Harrow and The Willows in Hainault seat 800.

Can we bring our own Asian caterer?

At some venues. Grand Sapphire, The Grove Banqueting, Woolston Manor and The Great Hall Leyton offer dry hire with your own caterer, The Willows offers dry hire with an approved caterer, and Byron Hall, Oakley House and Leeds Castle allow outside caterers. Hotels usually use their own kitchen or an approved list. Ask before you book, and check your caterer is on any list.

Can we have a havan or sacred fire at a wedding venue?

Often, but ask in writing. Many hotels and halls allow a small, contained havan with notice, but fire alarm and insurance rules differ by room. Some historic venues ban naked flames entirely: the Old Royal Naval College allows no candles or fire. Ask whether the alarm can be isolated and what container is required.

Is a Hindu ceremony at a hotel legally binding?

No. In England a religious wedding is legal only in a building registered for marriages, with an authorised person or registrar present. A hotel or banqueting hall is not one, so couples add a civil ceremony, either at a register office or by registrars at a licensed venue, often in a separate room on the same day.

Are there vegetarian and alcohol-free wedding venues in London?

Yes. Navnat Centre in Hayes is strictly meat-free and alcohol-free, with a hall seating 600, and SKLPC UK in Northolt is strictly vegetarian and alcohol-free, for up to 800 guests. Temple halls such as the Gokaldham Centre on Ealing Road follow the same rules.

Where can we hold an Asian wedding in Kent?

Our guide lists 13 Kent venues. Gravesend has halls for 200 to 300 near its gurdwara; Leeds Castle offers Hindu, Sikh and Muslim weddings with marquees for over 200; Mercure Maidstone Great Danes says it has room for 600; and Ashford International Hotel is licensed and takes 350.

Can we have a drone at a Heathrow hotel wedding?

Almost certainly not. The hotels on the edge of Heathrow sit inside the airport’s flight restriction zone, where a drone cannot fly without the airport’s permission. For aerials, choose a venue with grounds away from airports, and ask the venue’s permission too.
