Wedding venues in Croydon

This guide covers 19 wedding venues in the London Borough of Croydon, from a Palladian mansion in Addington to banqueting halls for a thousand guests on Purley Way. It is built from Croydon Council’s official list of approved ceremony venues, plus the reception venues couples here also book, and we reviewed every entry on 22 October 2026.

Croydon weddings at a glance

  • Licensed for ceremonies: 16 venues from Croydon Council’s approved list, including the Town Hall’s own ceremony rooms. Two have a licensed outdoor ceremony space.
  • Reception only: 3 more venues that host receptions but are not licensed, so the legal ceremony happens elsewhere first.
  • Register office: Croydon Town Hall, Fell Road, CR0 1NX, with the Clocktower Room (up to 65) and the Arnhem Room (up to 35).
  • Notice: given in the borough where you live, at least 29 days before the ceremony. See GOV.UK on giving notice. Croydon’s notice appointments were booked up two months ahead when we checked.
  • Travel: the whole borough is inside the ULEZ; a short drive from our studio in Beckenham.
  • Best for: large South Asian, African and multicultural weddings, a historic mansion with exclusive use, a farm and barn in the Shirley Hills, golf clubs, and unusual heritage spaces from a converted church to an old airport.

Choosing by style of venue

Croydon’s venues split roughly by geography. The town centre and Purley Way hold the big hotels and halls, while the southern and eastern edges of the borough, around Addington, Shirley and Coulsdon, have the grounds and the green.

Country house and farm

Addington Palace is Croydon’s grand option: a Grade II* listed Palladian mansion that was once the country home of the Archbishops of Canterbury. It is booked on an exclusive basis, licenses ceremonies for up to 200, including on the South Lawn, seats 150 in the Great Hall (300 with the adjoining rooms) and sleeps up to 48. It markets itself as a Surrey venue, but it is in Croydon and Croydon’s registrars attend. For something smaller and rustic, Oaks Farm Weddings in the Shirley Hills is a family-run, exclusive-hire farm with ceremonies in the Stables or outdoors, dining in an oak-beamed barn, an orangery and cottage gardens, for 100 by day and 150 in the evening.

Banqueting halls

Grand Sapphire Hotel and Banqueting, off Purley Way, is licensed for ceremonies and lists its pillarless Grand Ballroom at over 1,000 guests, with smaller suites and an on-site boutique hotel. It markets Pakistani, Indian, Bengali, Sri Lankan, Turkish, Arab and African weddings. Two smaller banqueting spaces host receptions only and are known mainly through directories: Imperial House Banqueting on Imperial Way and the Gihon Suite at Eden Experiences on Crown Hill, near East and West Croydon stations, which allows outside caterers. Neither has an official website we could find, so visit before you book.

Golf clubs

Three golf venues give you a course for portraits. Coulsdon Manor in Old Coulsdon is a manor house hotel on its own course, licensed for ceremonies, with receptions for up to 120 and a 2026 wedding brochure. Shirley Park Golf Club on Addiscombe Road holds ceremonies in its Dome Suite for 120, with 150 in the evening and a patio over the course. Croham Hurst Golf Club in South Croydon, founded in 1911, takes 100 seated and 160 in the evening but is not licensed for ceremonies.

Historic and unusual buildings

Stanley Arts in South Norwood is a Grade II listed hall complex designed by the inventor William Stanley, whose main hall opened in 1903: it seats 210 in rows for a ceremony, 180 at tables and 300 standing. The Festival Suite on Oakfield Road is a masonic hall in a converted Victorian church with an arched ceiling and stained glass, and three licensed rooms. Ruskin House on Coombe Road is a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse with a walled garden and its own bar. The Venue on Middle Street is an industrial-style space over three floors of a former printworks in the Old Town. Croydon also has two airport venues: the London Croydon Aerodrome Hotel stands on the site of the old Croydon Airport, with a largest suite for around 130, and Imperial Lounge is inside Airport House, the 1920s terminal building.

Hotels, football and restaurants

Hilton London Croydon (with its Weatherill Suite) and Hampton by Hilton on Dingwall Road are both on the approved list, but neither published wedding details we could confirm. Crystal Palace FC’s Selhurst Park holds licensed ceremonies, with receptions in the Stanley Stephenson Lounge for 160 seated. Coombe Wood House, the late-Victorian house in the 14-acre Coombe Wood gardens, reopened as a restaurant in 2025 after the previous restaurant closed in 2022; a fresh ceremony approval was applied for in late 2025, and we found no wedding packages yet.

Practical points

Eight of the 19 venues are marked “check” in the directory because we could not confirm current weddings or capacities: Coombe Wood House, the Festival Suite, Hampton by Hilton, Hilton London Croydon, Imperial Lounge, Ruskin House, Imperial House and Eden Experiences. Only Addington Palace and Oaks Farm publish a licensed outdoor ceremony space, and both are exclusive hire. None of the venues publishes a curfew we could find, so ask about finish times and music limits early.

Large and multicultural weddings

Croydon has a licensed ballroom listed at over 1,000 guests, which makes it a natural place to look for a big wedding. For a Sikh, Hindu, Muslim or African wedding across several events, the questions that matter are rarely on a venue’s website. Ask each hall:

  • whether you can bring your own caterer, or must use theirs, and whether the kitchen is halal or vegetarian;
  • whether a mandap, a havan (a small sacred fire) or a stage can be set up, and how early your decorator can get in;
  • whether a dhol and baraat can arrive outside, and where;
  • how late the music can run, and the time the room must be cleared;
  • how many cars the car park takes, and where coaches can drop off.

Our Asian wedding timeline shows how the events usually fit together, and our Asian weddings page shows how we cover them.

Getting married in Croydon

Croydon Town Hall

Croydon’s register office ceremonies are held in the Grade II listed Town Hall on Fell Road. The Clocktower Room seats 65 and the Arnhem Room 35, both including witnesses, and the council said both were taking bookings from August 2026. A basic Register Office ceremony, for the couple and two witnesses only, runs on Wednesdays for £62.

Fees need care. Two council pages gave different prices when we checked: the room pages list the Clocktower Room at £340 Monday to Thursday, £448 on Saturday and £528 on Sunday, while the booking page gives £355, £465 and £550. Neither says which year it covers. Ceremonies after 5pm cost 25% more, and a £100 deposit is taken. Confirm the current fee with the council when you book.

Giving notice

You give notice at the register office for the borough where you live, not where you marry, after living there for at least seven days. Notice must be given at least 29 days before the ceremony, you then have 12 months to marry, and your venue is named on the notice, so book it first. Notice costs £46.50 per person (£63 for partners who are not relevant nationals), and a Home Office referral can extend the wait to around 70 days. When we checked on 20 October 2026, Croydon’s page said there were no notice appointments for the next two months, so if you live in Croydon, book your appointment as soon as your venue is confirmed.

Licensed, reception-only and religious venues

At any of the 15 licensed venues besides the Town Hall, Croydon’s registrars come to you; ask the council for its fee. Civil ceremonies can include readings and music but nothing religious, though a blessing afterwards is allowed. Outdoor civil ceremonies are legal only within the grounds of an approved venue. At a reception-only venue, you marry first at the Town Hall or another licensed venue. Religious ceremonies take place at a place of worship registered for marriages, with an authorised person or registrar present; where the building is not registered, couples hold a civil ceremony as well. Our guide to getting married legally in England explains the steps.

Photographs and film at Croydon venues

  • Ask the Town Hall about photography. Croydon’s current pages do not publish a rule on photographs or filming during the ceremony. Ask the registrars when you book, and tell your photographer and filmmaker what they say.
  • Ballrooms for a thousand. In a room this size, light and sound decide the film. Coloured uplighting can turn skin tones purple or orange, so ask your decorator or DJ for some warm white light during the entrance, the speeches and the first dance. We record the speeches from the microphone feed as well as our own recorders, because a crowd that size is loud. See filming wedding speeches.
  • Barns and stables are darker inside. Low beams and small windows make lovely atmosphere but little daylight. Seat the couple facing the doors or the brightest window for the ceremony, and allow us a few minutes outside for portraits while the light is good.
  • Listed buildings have their own rules. Mansions, churches turned halls and Georgian houses often limit confetti, candles and fixings. Ask for the rules on confetti, drones and lighting at the viewing. Drone flights also depend on airspace and the venue’s permission: see drone wedding filming rules.
  • Golf courses and lawns at golden hour. The sun sets around 21:20 in late June and around 15:50 in mid-December in London. In summer, slip out for ten minutes after the wedding breakfast; in winter, a ceremony around 13:00 leaves daylight for portraits. More in our golden hour guide.
  • Plan for rain. Even in summer, roughly one day in four has measurable rain in London (Met Office 1991 to 2020 averages). Orangeries, covered patios and porches make the best wet-weather spots. See rainy wedding day photos.

Travel and logistics

Croydon is inside the ULEZ, like every London borough up to the M25, so a non-compliant car, van or minibus pays £12.50 a day, every day except Christmas Day. Cars built before 1973 are exempt, but TfL does not say whether a hired wedding car qualifies, so ask your car company. For a big wedding, confirm the car park size and coach drop-off with the venue, and for guests coming by train, check the last trains home for your actual date, because weekend engineering works can replace trains with buses. Your questions, answered

How many wedding venues are there in Croydon?

Our guide lists 19 venues in the London Borough of Croydon. Sixteen are on the council’s approved list for ceremonies, including the Town Hall’s ceremony rooms, and three host receptions only. Eight are marked “check” because we could not confirm current wedding details, so contact them directly.

Which Croydon venues take 200 or more guests?

Grand Sapphire lists its Grand Ballroom at over 1,000 guests. Addington Palace takes 300 using the Great Hall and adjoining rooms, and licenses ceremonies for up to 200. Stanley Arts seats 210 in rows, 180 at tables and 300 standing. Crystal Palace FC’s lounge takes 220 standing.

Can you get married outdoors in Croydon?

Yes, at two venues with a licensed outdoor space: Addington Palace, on its South Lawn, and Oaks Farm Weddings in the Shirley Hills. Outdoor civil ceremonies are legal only in the grounds of an approved venue, so make sure an indoor room is held for you in case of rain.

What is the cheapest way to get married in Croydon?

A basic Register Office ceremony at Croydon Town Hall costs £62, for the couple and two witnesses, on Wednesdays only, plus £46.50 each for notice. You can then hold a reception wherever you like. Check fees with the council, because its pages gave conflicting prices for the larger rooms.

Where can you hold a large Asian wedding in Croydon?

Grand Sapphire, off Purley Way, markets Pakistani, Indian, Bengali, Sri Lankan and other cultural weddings and lists over 1,000 guests. Addington Palace also markets large South Asian weddings, with exclusive use and rooms to stay. Imperial House and Eden Experiences are smaller halls known through directories, so visit first.

Is Addington Palace in Surrey or Croydon?

Croydon. Addington Palace markets itself as a Surrey venue, but it is on Croydon Council’s approved list, so Croydon’s registrars attend. If you live in another borough, you still give notice where you live, naming Addington Palace as the venue.

Can you take photos at Croydon register office?

Croydon’s current pages do not say, so ask the registrars when you book. In our experience, most register offices allow photographs, with some limits during the signing, and many offer a posed signing afterwards.
