Weddings in Bromley, Beckenham and south east London: a local guide

Bromley's new register office, its 13 approved venues, Lewisham, Greenwich, Croydon and Danson House compared, with 2026/27 fees and where to take photos.

Bromley’s register office has moved to a first-floor Ceremony Room at Bromley Civic Centre, licensed for up to 50 guests, and the borough has 13 approved venues. Within a short drive you also have Lewisham’s Evelyn Suite, Woolwich Town Hall in Greenwich, Croydon Town Hall and Danson House in Bexley, each with its own fees and photography rules. This guide, from our studio in Beckenham, compares them and says where to go for photographs afterwards.

The short answer: For up to 50 guests and a simple day, Bromley Civic Centre costs £400 on a weekday (2026/27) but has no outdoor space, so plan portraits elsewhere. For a garden on site, look at Lewisham’s patio or Danson House in its park. Check each council’s photography rule before you book.

South east London is civil-ceremony country: according to ONS 2022 data reported by Bridebook, 87% of London weddings are civil, and 92% in Bexley. For the wider picture, see our local guide to weddings in London, Kent and Surrey.

Where is Bromley register office?

Bromley Civic Centre, Churchill Court, 2 Westmoreland Road, Bromley BR1 1AS (0300 303 8667). The council describes the Ceremony Room as bright and contemporary, on the first floor of a working office block.

  • Capacity: up to 50 guests.
  • Fees 2026/27: £400 Monday to Friday, £525 at weekends and bank holidays, with a £200 non-refundable deposit at booking.
  • Booking: an online enquiry form, with a reply within 15 working days. Bromley says a ceremony is usually possible within three months.
  • Room rules: no decorations (the room has artificial flowers), no food or drink except water, and no changing rooms.
  • Parking: St Mark’s Square car park, BR2 9AP.
  • Statutory ceremonies: Bromley’s FAQ says these run on two mornings a month at the national fee; check current dates.
  • Photography: allowed inside the ceremony room. There is no green space for outdoor photos.

Where can we have photos after a Bromley register office wedding?

Because the Civic Centre has no garden, decide your portrait spot before the day. The simplest options are a nearby park or the grounds of your reception venue. Two things to know:

  • Greenwich Park is a Royal Park. A wedding shoot there needs a permit: at least 10 days’ notice, one hour, up to 10 people, no confetti, £5m public liability insurance, and £100 plus VAT per photographer (£120 including VAT), non-refundable once issued. It’s around 20 minutes’ drive from Beckenham without traffic.
  • A venue with its own outdoor space saves the travel. Lewisham’s register office has an accessible patio garden for photographs, and Danson House sits in Danson Park.

Wedding venues in Bromley and Beckenham

Bromley council lists 13 approved venues: Bromley Civic Centre, Bromley Court Hotel, Bromley Old Town Hall, Brown & Green Life, Chislehurst Golf Club, Club Langley, Kevington Hall, Oakley House, Ripley Arts Centre, Shampan, The Bull’s Head Hotel, The Manor at Bickley and The Warren.

At an approved venue, Bromley’s registrars attend. When we checked in October 2026, Bromley’s page still showed 2025/26 rates of £630 on weekdays and £825 at weekends, with no 2026/27 figure, so ask for the current fee.

Beckenham Place Park (Beckenham Hill, BR3 1SY) is a licensed venue, but it’s in Lewisham, so Lewisham’s registrars attend. Lewisham’s 2026/27 fees for external venues are £649 Monday to Thursday, £723 Friday, £906 Saturday and £985 on Sundays and bank holidays.

For more choice, our older post on London venues for hire has a wider list, and small wedding venues in London and Kent covers rooms for 10 to 50.

Lewisham is on the ground floor, step-free, with a hearing loop; book by email or on 020 8690 2128.

Greenwich has the strictest rule. In the statutory Register Office, which is for residents only and often has a wait of six months or more, a photographer can attend only as one of your two witnesses, photographing before and after the ceremony. In the Edwardian Room and Victoria Hall, photographers count as guests, so leave room for them. Greenwich’s registrars at approved venues cost £607 Monday to Thursday and £811.50 on Saturdays (2026/27).

Croydon has two council pages that disagree: one gives the Clocktower Room at £340 Monday to Thursday, £448 Saturday and £528 Sunday; the booking page gives £355, £465 and £550. Neither states a year. Ceremonies after 5pm cost 25% more. Croydon’s ceremonies site has said photography isn’t permitted during the ceremony, so confirm what applies before you plan your film.

Bexley belongs to Kent County Council’s service, so its fees and booking follow Kent’s: see planning a wedding in Kent. For central London town halls too, read London register offices compared.

Where do we give notice if we live in Bromley?

At your own borough’s register office, wherever you marry. You must have lived there for the past seven days, give notice at least 29 days before the ceremony, and marry within 12 months. Notice costs £46.50 per person (£63 if referred to the Home Office, when it can take around 70 days). Bromley points out that notice covers only the venue named on it, so a Bromley couple marrying at Beckenham Place Park gives notice in Bromley naming that venue, and books the ceremony with Lewisham.

How far is everything from Beckenham?

Around 20 minutes to Greenwich Park, 35 minutes to Charing Cross (45 to 60 in traffic) and 35 minutes to Sevenoaks, all from Beckenham High Street without traffic. Saturdays take longer. Every borough here is inside the ULEZ, so a non-compliant car or minibus pays £12.50 a day. Travel is included within 50 miles of our studio, which takes in all of south east London and much of Kent and Surrey.

From behind the camera

A first-floor room in an office block needs a different plan from a town hall with grand steps. I’d ask Bromley three things in advance: where we can stand during the vows, whether the signing can be photographed or staged afterwards, and how long you have in the room once the ceremony ends, because that’s where your family photographs will happen. Then I’d plan the portraits somewhere green, ten or fifteen minutes away, so the drive becomes a breather rather than a gap. On film, a ceremony room of 50 is close and quiet, which is good for sound: small microphones, agreed with the registrar, catch every word. Greenwich’s witness-only rule in its statutory room is easy to miss, so if you want your vows photographed there, book the Edwardian Room.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Bromley register office?

Bromley’s ceremonies take place at Bromley Civic Centre, Churchill Court, 2 Westmoreland Road, Bromley BR1 1AS. The Ceremony Room is on the first floor of a working office block and is licensed for up to 50 guests. The nearest parking is St Mark’s Square car park, BR2 9AP. The council’s number is 0300 303 8667.

Can you take photos at Bromley register office?

Yes, inside the ceremony room. Bromley says photos may be taken in the room, but the Civic Centre has no green space for outdoor photographs. Ask your registrar what they allow during the vows and the signing, and plan portraits at a nearby park or at your reception venue’s grounds afterwards.

How much is a register office wedding in Bromley?

Bromley’s 2026/27 fees for the Ceremony Room are £400 Monday to Friday and £525 at weekends and bank holidays, with a £200 non-refundable deposit when you book. Notice costs £46.50 per person. If your registrars attend an approved venue instead, ask Bromley for the current fee, because only 2025/26 rates were published when we checked.

Is Beckenham Place Park in Bromley?

No. Beckenham Place Park, at Beckenham Hill BR3 1SY, is a licensed venue in the London Borough of Lewisham, so Lewisham’s registrars attend ceremonies there. You book the registrars with Lewisham, but you still give notice in the borough where you live, which for many couples is Bromley.

Do you need a permit for wedding photos in Greenwich Park?

Yes. Greenwich Park is a Royal Park, and any wedding or portrait shoot needs a permit from the park office: at least 10 days’ notice, one hour, up to 10 people, no confetti, £5m public liability insurance and a fee of £100 plus VAT per photographer. Your photographer applies for it, not you.
