This guide covers 110 wedding venues in the parts of Surrey nearest south east London: Tandridge, Reigate and Banstead, Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley, Elmbridge and Guildford, plus the London Boroughs of Sutton, Kingston upon Thames and Richmond upon Thames along the county border. It is built from the official approved-venue lists kept by Surrey County Council and the three London boroughs, plus the reception-only venues couples here also book, and we reviewed every entry on 22 October 2026.
Surrey weddings at a glance
- Licensed for ceremonies: 101 of the 110 venues, from Surrey County Council’s venue finder and the lists published by Sutton, Kingston and Richmond. 33 venues offer an outdoor ceremony space.
- Reception only: 9 venues that host receptions but are not shown as licensed, so the legal ceremony happens somewhere else first.
- Register offices: Surrey’s are in Leatherhead and Weybridge, with Guildford’s ceremonies at the Guildford Harbour Hotel until 29 March 2027. Sutton, Kingston and Richmond each run their own.
- Notice: given at the register office where you live, at least 29 days before the ceremony. See GOV.UK on giving notice.
- Travel: from Beckenham, Box Hill is about 20 miles (around 46 minutes without traffic), Richmond Park and Kew about 15 to 16 miles (45 to 50 minutes) and Guildford about 36 miles (around an hour). Allow longer on a Saturday.
- Best for: country house hotels, golf clubs, royal gardens and a palace, racecourses and stadiums for big numbers, Thames islands, and a few barns and vineyards.
Two things to know first. This guide covers the districts nearest south east London, not all of Surrey: Waverley, Woking, Runnymede, Spelthorne and Surrey Heath are not included yet. And the county line is not where venues say it is. Hampton Court Palace, Pembroke Lodge and Kew are in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, so Richmond’s registrars marry couples there, while the Crowne Plaza London Kingston sits in Long Ditton, inside Elmbridge. For Addington and Coulsdon, see our guide to wedding venues in Croydon.
Choosing by style of venue
Hotels (22) and golf clubs (20) are the two biggest groups, followed by country houses (14), historic buildings (12) and sports clubs and racecourses (9). Surrey has fewer barns than Kent: only four in our list, plus two vineyard and farm venues.
Country houses and manor hotels
Loseley Park near Guildford holds ceremonies in its Great Hall (102) or Tithe Barn (140), with vows outdoors in the Walled Garden. West Horsley Place, a Grade I listed manor under restoration, takes a few exclusive-hire Saturdays a year, from £8,000 (2027, per venue). Near Gatwick, Smallfield Place is hired for a two-night weekend, and Greyfriars House on the Hog’s Back takes about 30 events a year with your own suppliers.
Gardens, a palace and royal parkland
This is where the area stands out. Kew Gardens holds ceremonies in the Nash Conservatory (200); Cambridge Cottage is closed for refurbishment from September 2026 to August 2027. Hampton Court Palace is hired dry with approved suppliers, from the Great Hall to the riverside. Pembroke Lodge sits on the highest point of Richmond Park with licensed oak gazebos. In Surrey, RHS Garden Wisley has a Chinese-style pavilion by its lake, and Painshill holds open-air ceremonies at its Gothic Temple from May to September.
Golf clubs
Twenty golf clubs give a function suite, a bar and open ground for photographs. Surrey National at Chaldon (250 seated) and Woldingham both market Asian, African and Caribbean weddings with mandap options. Reigate Hill has a lakeside pergola for outdoor vows. Six clubs host receptions only, including The Richmond Golf Club, whose clubhouse is the Palladian mansion Sudbrook Park.
Racecourses, stadiums and clubs
For the largest numbers, look here. Allianz Stadium Twickenham markets South Asian receptions of up to 850, and Epsom Downs Racecourse seats 650 for dinner. Sandown Park and Lingfield Park have suites over the track. Ham Polo Club, London’s last polo club, seats 140.
The Thames
Raven’s Ait is a private island between Kingston and Surbiton, reached by the venue’s boat, with ceremonies on the lawn and 250 seated. D’Oyly Carte Island near Weybridge is reached by footbridge, and Turk Launches hires party boats, including the 1892 Yarmouth Belle, for receptions on the water. The Mitre faces Hampton Court Palace across the river.
Barns, farms and vineyards
Denbies Wine Estate near Dorking is a working vineyard with outdoor ceremonies for up to 150. Coltsford Mill near Oxted sets mill buildings among lakes and a waterfall, The Barn at Botley Hill sits high on the North Downs, and Hookhouse Farm at Outwood has a 17th-century threshing barn and free choice of caterer.
Small rooms and unusual spaces
For a small ceremony, look at Lovekyn Chapel in Kingston, a chantry chapel of 1309 seating 60, Honeywood Museum in Carshalton (40), Orleans House Gallery’s Octagon Room in Twickenham, The Parrot Inn at Forest Green (30) or Painshill’s Crystal Grotto (16). Clandon Wood, a natural burial ground, licenses a Glass Pavilion for ceremonies but hosts no receptions.
Practical points
Fifteen venues market large or South Asian weddings, including Oatlands Park Hotel (300 seated, with outside caterers) and The Mandolay in Guildford; see also our guide to Asian wedding venues. 29 venues are offered on an exclusive-use basis. Few publish finish times (Bletchingley Golf Club and Malden Golf Club both say midnight), so ask at your first visit. 63 venues are marked “check” because we could not confirm current weddings, so confirm with them first.
The directory, district by district
Filter by style, guest numbers and ceremonies.

16 venues, all licensed, and the closest part of Surrey to Bromley and Croydon. There is no register office in the district. Ten venues are marked “check”.

Getting married in Surrey and the borders
Four separate registration services
Surrey County Council runs ceremonies in all six Surrey districts here. Sutton, Kingston and Richmond are London boroughs, each its own registration district with its own register office, fees and venue list. The venue decides who you book: Kew or Hampton Court with Richmond, Raven’s Ait with Kingston, Honeywood Museum with Sutton, Loseley with Surrey. Where you live decides where you give notice.
Surrey’s register offices, and Guildford’s move
- Leatherhead: The Mansion, 70 Church Street, KT22 8DP. The Tylney Room takes 2 to 18 guests and the State Room up to 58, with the conservatory.
- Weybridge: Rylston, 81 Oatlands Drive, KT13 9LN. The Buckingham room takes up to 48 and Oatlands up to 20.
- Guildford: Artington House on Portsmouth Road closes on 1 November 2026, and the council says existing bookings go ahead. From 6 September 2026 to 29 March 2027, Guildford register office ceremonies for 2 to 18 guests are held in Suite 3 at the Guildford Harbour Hotel, 3 Alexandra Terrace, GU1 3DA, on Sundays and Mondays only. The council had not said what happens after March 2027 when we checked (Surrey ceremony options and fees).
Camberley, Epsom, Reigate and Staines handle births and deaths only. For 2026/27, with the same rates set for the next two years, a ceremony for up to 18 at Leatherhead costs £365 Monday to Wednesday, rising to £715 Friday to Sunday; at the Guildford Harbour Hotel it is £365 on a Monday and £540 on a Sunday. Registrars at a licensed venue cost £720 Monday to Thursday and £950 Friday to Sunday and bank holidays. Every fee includes a £100 non-refundable admin fee. Register office ceremonies can be booked online up to two years ahead; for a licensed venue, confirm the venue first, then book the registrars.
Sutton, Kingston and Richmond
- Sutton: council ceremony rooms in central Sutton, with the Oaks Room for up to 50 and the weekday-only Lavender Room for up to 6 guests. See Sutton’s ceremony rooms for current fees.
- Kingston: The Old Court House, on the lower ground floor of the Guildhall, has three panelled rooms: the Oak Room (70), the Grove Room (40) and the weekday-only Acorn Room (8). The Oak Room starts from £355 Tuesday to Thursday (2026, per the council brochure).
- Richmond: York House, Richmond Road, Twickenham TW1 3AA, with the Loggia Room as the register office’s ceremony room. Registrar fees from 1 January 2026 run from £306.60 Monday to Thursday to £729.60 on Sundays, with room hire extra outside the Loggia, and a Wednesday Simple Ceremony Room costs £84.60 for the couple and two witnesses (Richmond fees).
Giving notice
You give notice where you live, at least 29 days before the ceremony, and then have 12 months to marry. It costs £46.50 per person, or £63 if referred to the Home Office, when the wait can stretch to 70 days. Surrey residents book online at Guildford, Leatherhead or Weybridge after living in the district for at least eight days (Surrey giving notice). A Bromley couple marrying at Kew gives notice in Bromley, not Richmond. Notice covers only the venue named on it.
Outdoor, reception-only and religious weddings
Surrey allows outdoor ceremonies only during British Summer Time, in outdoor areas named on the venue’s licence; register offices are indoors only. The venue makes the weather call at least an hour before, an indoor licensed room must be ready, and outdoor numbers are capped at that room’s capacity (Surrey outdoor ceremonies). For Sutton, Kingston and Richmond, ask the borough’s registrars.
At a reception-only venue, you marry at a register office or licensed venue first. Religious weddings take place at a registered place of worship. Our article on getting married in Surrey has the full fee table.
Photographs and film at Surrey venues
This advice is about types of venue and the land around them, from our side of the camera, not about any one venue.
- Richmond Park and Bushy Park need a permit. Both are Royal Parks, and a shoot with a professional photographer needs a wedding permit: one hour, up to 10 people, at least 10 days’ notice and £5m public liability insurance, at £100 + VAT per photographer under the terms. No confetti, and keep 50 metres from the deer. At Pembroke Lodge, ask where the grounds end and the park begins. See London wedding photo locations and permits.
- Kew’s £75 + VAT permit is for personal use. It covers the outdoor gardens only, with no flash or drones. If you marry at Kew, ask the venue team how photography is arranged.
- Box Hill and the Surrey Hills. The National Trust cares for over 4,000 hectares here, including Box Hill, Leith Hill and Reigate Hill. Wedding shoots are arranged with each property in advance, commercial work needs a signed contract, and no drones fly on Trust land. Other land needs the owner’s consent.
- Register office rules differ. Surrey lets your photographer or filmmaker record the ceremony and allows biodegradable confetti outside only. Richmond does not allow photos of the register during the signing, and offers a staged signing. See register office wedding photography.
- Golf courses give golden-hour space, but the course may still be in play, so ask when you can walk out.
- Barns and panelled rooms are darker than they look. Open the big doors and seat the top table near daylight. In great halls and stadium suites, we mic the officiant, take a feed from the DJ’s desk and ask for white light over the speeches (filming wedding speeches).
- Drones near Gatwick. Venues near Horley, Smallfield and Charlwood are close to the airport, where the CAA sets flight restriction zones. See drone wedding filming rules.
- Plan around sunset and rain. In London the sun sets around 21:20 in late June and 15:50 in mid-December, so a winter ceremony around 13:00 leaves daylight for portraits. About one day in four has measurable rain even in summer (Met Office 1991 to 2020 averages). See our golden hour guide and rainy wedding day photos.
Travel and logistics
Sutton, Kingston and Richmond are inside London’s ULEZ, so a non-compliant car, van or minibus pays £12.50 a day; the six Surrey districts are outside it, though most London journeys start inside. TfL does not say whether a hired pre-1973 wedding car keeps its exemption, so ask your car company. Thames islands depend on a footbridge or boat, so ask about access for older guests, and check the last trains home for your date. See wedding transport in London, Kent and Surrey.
Your questions, answered
How many wedding venues are there in Surrey?
Surrey County Council’s venue finder showed 104 approved venues for the whole county. Our guide lists 110 in the districts nearest south east London: 71 across six Surrey districts and 39 in Sutton, Kingston and Richmond. 101 are licensed for ceremonies.
Where are the register offices in Surrey?
Surrey holds ceremonies at The Mansion in Leatherhead and Rylston in Weybridge. Artington House in Guildford closes on 1 November 2026; until 29 March 2027, Guildford ceremonies for up to 18 take place at the Guildford Harbour Hotel on Sundays and Mondays.
Are Kingston, Richmond and Sutton in Surrey for weddings?
No. They are London boroughs with their own register offices, fees and venue lists, even where a venue uses a Surrey address. Hampton Court Palace and Kew are booked with Richmond’s registrars.
Can you get married outdoors in Surrey?
Yes, at a licensed venue with an approved outdoor area: 33 in this guide offer one. Surrey allows this during British Summer Time only, with an indoor licensed room ready. Register offices are indoors only.
Which venues take 200 or more guests?
The largest are Allianz Stadium Twickenham (850), Epsom Downs Racecourse (650), Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop (500), Sandown Park (350), and Lingfield Park, Oatlands Park and The Mandolay (300 to 320 seated). Many more take 200 to 300, including RHS Wisley, Kew and Hampton Court Palace.
What is the cheapest way to get married here?
Richmond’s Simple Ceremony Room costs £84.60 on Wednesdays for the couple and two witnesses. In Surrey, the smallest register office room starts at £365 on a Monday to Wednesday, and Kingston’s Oak Room from £355 (2026). Add £46.50 each for notice.
