Sevenoaks is where London’s suburbs give way to proper Kent countryside. The town sits on a ridge above the Weald, and the lanes around it lead to some of the best-known historic houses in the south east.
From our studio in Beckenham it is around half an hour down the A21, so we can arrive early, walk the grounds before your guests do and stay until the last dance without a long journey home.
Historic houses nearby
The district around Sevenoaks is rich in castles and estates. Popular venues include Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, with its gardens and lake; Chiddingstone Castle, in one of the prettiest villages in Kent; and Squerryes in Westerham, a seventeenth-century house with parkland and a lake. Each has its own character, from formal Tudor rooms to open lawns, and each gives your photographs and film a strong sense of place.
For church weddings, the villages around Sevenoaks have old parish churches with lychgates, yew trees and narrow paths that are lovely for the walk out and the confetti. Civil ceremonies are arranged through Kent’s registration service: see civil ceremonies for how we cover them.
Parkland and the Weald
Knole Park, with its deer and ancient trees, is right on the edge of town and part of what makes Sevenoaks feel the way it does. Further south the Weald opens up in rolling fields and woodland. We look at the land around your venue before the day, so we know where the light will be and how far you will want to walk in your wedding shoes.
- Spring. Bluebell woods and blossom, with fresh green everywhere.
- Summer. Long evenings, garden drinks receptions and late golden hour portraits.
- Autumn and winter. Rich colour in the parkland, then candlelight and fires inside. See winter weddings.
Photography and film, together
Estate weddings often spread across gardens, terraces and halls, which is where one team covering both photography and film really helps. Photography starts from £830 and film from £1,430. We photograph and film weddings of every faith and culture, including Asian and fusion weddings at country venues. See our collections, or our pages for Kent and Bromley.
Your questions, answered
Is travel to Sevenoaks included?
Yes. Travel is included within 50 miles of our studio in Beckenham, and Sevenoaks, Hever, Edenbridge and Westerham are all well inside that.
Can we have portraits away from our venue?
Sometimes. Most estates have plenty of space in their own grounds. Public parks and National Trust land can have their own rules for photography and filming, so we check before suggesting a spot.
How far ahead should we book?
Summer Saturdays at the larger estates book up early, so it is worth checking our date as soon as your venue is confirmed. We reply within one working day.
