Derby sits where the Midlands meets the hills. Within half an hour of the city centre you can be in a stone village, a deer park or the first green folds of the Peak District. We are a photography and film studio based in Beckenham, we have covered weddings in Derby, and we are always glad to come back.
What we like about Derby weddings is the mix. A ceremony at the cathedral or a city gurdwara in the morning, then out into the countryside for the reception, with open land and soft evening light for portraits. It gives your photographs and film two settings in one day, and it rewards a team that plans the journey between them.
Where couples marry
- Derby Cathedral. A tall, light-filled nave in the middle of the city. Read how we work at church weddings, quietly and within the rules of each church.
- Gurdwaras in Normanton. Derby has a long-established Punjabi Sikh community, and many couples hold their anand karaj close to home. See our Sikh wedding films.
- Country houses and hotels. Popular venues around the city include Shottle Hall near Belper, Morley Hayes and Breadsall Priory, each with grounds made for an unhurried portrait walk.
- Register office ceremonies. Short, simple and often the most personal of all. Our civil ceremony coverage starts at two hours.
Into the hills
If you are marrying on the Derbyshire side of the city, the landscape does a lot of the work. Dry stone walls, long grass and big skies make for portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The weather changes quickly up here, so we always have a sheltered plan and a few umbrellas in the car. Rain on the hills can make some of the best photographs of the day.
How the travel works
- Quoted at cost. Travel is included within 50 miles of Beckenham. For Derby we add the actual cost of getting there, and it is in your quote from the first reply.
- A night before, when it helps. For early ceremonies, or a wedding spread across two or three days, we stay locally so nothing depends on the motorway.
- Nothing else changes. The same team, the same planning call and the same care as a wedding down the road from our studio.
Photography and film
One team can cover both photography and film, which keeps the day simple. Photography starts from £830, film from £1,430, and both together from £2,180, for two hours on a Friday to Sunday. See our collections. Nearby, we also cover weddings in Leicester and Sheffield.
Your questions, answered
Have you worked in Derby before?
Yes, we have covered weddings in Derby. We are based in Beckenham and travel up, with travel beyond 50 miles quoted at cost.
What if it rains on our countryside portraits?
We plan for it. We look for covered spots at your venue in advance, bring umbrellas, and make the most of soft, moody light when it comes.
Is a weekday wedding cheaper?
Yes. Weddings from Monday to Thursday are 15% less than the same coverage on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
