African and Caribbean Weddings

African and Caribbean weddings are some of the most colourful, musical and joyful days there are. Families travel from across the world, the dance floor fills before dinner is served, and every outfit deserves its own portrait.

Many couples celebrate twice: a traditional ceremony that honours their heritage and their families, and a white wedding with a church or civil ceremony and a reception. Some hold both on the same day with a change of outfits in between; others spread them over a weekend or even a few weeks. However you plan it, we photograph and film each part with the energy and the respect it deserves.

The traditional ceremony

Every culture, and often every family, does it differently. A Nigerian traditional wedding might include the introduction of the families, the groom and his friends prostrating to greet the bride’s family, and the bride being led out to find her groom among the guests. A Ghanaian engagement might centre on the knocking, the presentation of gifts and the formal acceptance by the family. Before your day we ask you to talk us through the order of events, who the key family members are, and which moments matter most, so we are always in the right place.

  • Family introductions. The elders, the speakers and the formal exchanges that join two families together.
  • Gifts and customs. The bride price or list, the presentation of gifts and the rituals your family keeps.
  • Colour and fabric. Aso ebi, kente, gele and coordinated family outfits, photographed so the colours look as rich as they did in the room.
  • Money spraying and dancing. Fast, loud and wonderful, and exactly the kind of moment our cinema cameras love.

Caribbean celebrations

Caribbean weddings in London bring their own rhythm: a church ceremony with a gospel choir, a reception with steel pan or a sound system, rum punch, family speeches that run long in the best way, and a dance floor led by the aunties and uncles. We photograph the formal moments carefully and then let the party carry the story.

The white wedding and the party

Whether your white wedding is in a church, at a register office or at your venue, we cover the ceremony, the family photographs (there are usually a lot, and we plan for them), the grand entrance, the speeches, the cake and the dancing. In a London city wedding we will take you out for portraits after dark, and in winter that light comes early.

Priced by event

Each event is priced on its own, so a traditional ceremony on Friday and a white wedding on Saturday are simply two events, and you only pay for the coverage you need. Photography starts from £830 and film from £1,430. Add guest portraits and messages to capture everyone who travelled to be there. See our collections.

Your questions, answered

Can you cover the traditional ceremony and the white wedding on the same day?

Yes. We plan the timeline with you, including the outfit change, and make sure there is time for portraits in both looks.

How do you price a wedding over two days?

Each event is priced separately by the hours you need. Get your price and tell us about every event at once.

We have a very large guest list. Is that a problem?

Not at all. For big weddings we can talk about adding a second photographer, and we plan family group photographs carefully so they run quickly and nobody is missed.

Do you travel for weddings outside London?

Yes, across the UK and abroad, with travel added at cost.
